Chestnuts

My husband came in today and asked me if I had seen the hundreds of chestnuts ripening on the tree that over hangs our garden. To be honest, I hadn't looked as the start of the chestnut season brings both pleasure and pain. I love the taste of the fresh chestnuts every year, but I can't deny that they are a pain to get ready and I feel that it is wrong to waste them. Our freezer is still bursting with the cleaned chestnuts that I put in it last year. I hasten to add that I gave some to friends as well as the ones that we ate at the time. So, watch this space. If you can suggest recipes I would love to hear about them.

Pizza on a focaccia base

Image
In the last post I gave you the recipe for focaccia, but what I didn't tell you is that this dough makes an excellent base for pizza. All I did was roll it out thinner than the focaccia and top it with some: tomato passata, stoned olives, thinly sliced chorizo grated mozarella cheese a few dried herbs: origano or thyme Allow it to rise for about 30 minutes and cook in a very hot oven until brown and bubbling. One of the advantages of pizza over all other doughs is that you don't have to leave it to get cold before digging in.

New home

Hi Rifler! What are you doing standing about here? I've moved; join me for a housewarming over at  The Spike . Everyone's been asking where you are. Just watch out for the punch...

Focaccia

Image
I've given this post a simple title but it is another of those foodie things that is simple but tastes wonderful. The wonderful comes from the ingredients. Good olive oil, rosmary from the garden and light bread dough. What could be better? Well. in truth the addition of mashed potatoes to the dough helps it along quite a bit as it makes it last longer and it has a softer crumb which means that it is good to eat even on the second day. Traditionally focaccia that you buy in Italy only stays fresh for a couple of hours. It is over yeasted to make it rise but this results in a bread that dries quickly. My Focaccia has the advantage of lasting but still tasting good. What you will need: 500g strong bread flour 40g instant mash potato, this is about half a sachet. 7g fast action yeast 300ml water for the bread dough and' 150ml boiling water to reconstitute the potato 12g salt Salamoia 30ml olive oil plus 30mil water fresh rosmary 1 teaspoon of rock salt. Into a large bowl put the f...

AIG's Couture Insurance For Shoes and Designer Wardrobe Collections

Image
You can now insure your expensive Louis Vuitton, Hermes, or Christian Louboutin thanks to AIG Private Client Group (a division of American International Group Inc. NYSE: AIG). The insurance company has introduced a more specialized insurance that is specifically designed for couture and designer wearable collections for its high net worth policyholders. The new couture insurance product will give coverage not typically found in a homeowners policy and recognizes the high value placed on the fine craftsmanship of high-end designer fashions and wardrobe accessories. It covers couture and ready-to-wear garments, shoes, handbags, and vintage and historic clothing. They will be individually itemized in the policy with the option to use blanket coverage for less expensive items. The insurance will cover damage caused by flood, mold, and moths, risks often excluded from a homeowners policy. Additionally, it covers custom, work-in-progress couture and shoes, as is reimbursement of expenses for...

New home sales In the US is Up by 5.7% in August 7-year high

Image
Newly built homes being sold has posted the highest level since early 2008 in August, that's more than 7 years. This shows that the demand in housing is strengthening. New single-family homes sales were up by 5.7% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 552,000 according to the Commerce Department. The increase in sales is a result of steady job gains and low mortgage rates.  The real estate market hast been really hit hard by the Great Recession and recovered slowly even after the downturn ended in 2009. New-home sales have soared nearly 22% in the past year. Strong sales in newly built home and construction could help the economy by generating construction jobs, demand for more building materials and more spending on landscaping and other services. Home builders raised new-home prices aggressively last year, likely weighing on sales, which totaled just 414,000 in 2014. That was little changed from sales in 2013. But builders have reined in price increases this year, fueling more ...

Apricot and chocolate chip loaf cake

Image
Do you really always want elaborate cakes? Sometimes I do and sometimes it is the downright simple that really hits the spot. So, on that note, this cake is going to be one of the downright simple variety and no  less good for that. It is perfect with a hot cup of tea. One thing that my mother taught me about cooking was: If you don't put good things into your food don't expect a good result. So this cake is made with all good things but the making is simple. What you'll need: 250g self raising flour 120g butter 120g sugar 2 eggs perhaps a splash of milk 100g dried apricots, the no soak variety. Chop them up a bit 75g chocolate chips a teaspoon of vanilla extract To make: heat your oven to approx gas mark 4 or 160 C. Put the flour and sugar in a bowl. Add the butter and rub it into the dry ingredients until it resembles small peas. No need to be too fine with this. Add the apricots that should be about the size of peas, and the chocolate. Stir in. Break the egg into the mix...

You Are What You Think

Image
I am sure you must have heard the cliché before that you are what you think , you are what you say , you are what you do , and finally you are what you attract and become .  Let’s start a normal day--you get up in the morning with positive thoughts and say to yourself before you put your feet on the floor, “it’s going to be a wonderful day!” and your positive thoughts with affirmation will make your day wonderful. On the other hand, if you get up with negative thoughts, chances are that you will have a bad day. The big dilemma is how to think and remain positive.    It is not easy to always think positively and do positive things when the news we hear or read and the people who surround us are negative—these factors continuously affect us. If you want to be positive, you have to work hard, very hard. In my opinion, your positive thoughts and actions are directly connected with people and environment.    You do have control over people, for example your friends. ...

Importance of Coaching and Mentoring

Image
Importance of Coaching and Mentoring  in Network Marketing Having coached thousands of networkers globally, I firmly believe that without proper guidance in this wonderful business, it is difficult to succeed. Why? Unlike traditional business, which offers BBA and MBA program, in network marketing there are no degree programs or diplomas.   Trained as an aerospace engineer, I was clueless about building a network marketing business. I quickly realized that in order to succeed I had to educate myself. I was fortunate to come across Networking Times and started attending their live webinars in January 2004. I listened to top leaders like Tom Schreiter, Mark Yarnell, and Randy Gage. I was fortunate that Dr. Josephine and Chris Gross connected me to a few of these MLM gurus. Tom Schreiter, among several others, became my mentor as well as a good friend.   It does not matter which profession you belong to, you must reflect on your practice. As a flying instructor, I regular...
